Hello Everyone!
Tomorrow marks the very first day of half marathon training. Trevon will be using a sub 2:30 training plan, courtesy of the Runkeeper app. We are tracking all of our activity on Strava (DPS AmeriCorps Leaderboard), which has a leader board for our department, so that we can have friendly competitions with coworkers. We will post more information about our training and nutrition plans soon, but for now here is a look at our race route (For more information).
Have a great weekend!

Colfax Marathon 2.0: Half Marathon Edition
Hello Everyone!
It's been a little while since we last posted, but don't worry--we are back! This year, we are setting our goals a little higher. Running in the Colfax Marathon is an opportunity for us to help our program, build healthier habits, and advocate for the students of Denver Public Schools, so we want to do all we can!
Jessica and I are both running the half marathon on May 17th! We are also setting our initial fundraising goal at $2,000, which we fell just short of last year (97% of goal reached). We have both been working out, but official training begins this month. There will be many more posts this year, as our AmeriCorps program will be hosting group runs, professional running coaches, and various fun activities to make this year even better than the last. So please follow us, and any donations, advice, or support is more than welcome!

And the serious training begins...
We have about 8 weeks left until the big race day! Trevon has been killing it on the treadmill and out in Cheesman Park, where as my progress has been more slow going. Hal Higdon has a really great 8-week training program for 10K runners (in addition to lots of other great race training programs--check it out at www.halhigdon.com), so I modified it a bit to fit with my work schedule. Here's to the next 8 weeks!

Our Neighborhood's Outdoor Gym
Cheesman Park is just a 5 minute walk down the street, and it has quickly become our favorite place to run after work or on weekends when we don't care to drive to the gym. We discovered this gem of a park back in September when we first moved into our neighborhood. There is both a sidewalk and gravel path that run around the perimeter and overlook downtown and the distant mountain ranges, making it a much more desirable option than watching tv on a treadmill.

Colfax Marathon Route!
The Colfax Marathon Relay consists of 5 legs. Trevon and I will be running on a team with 3 other awesome AmeriCorps members.
Leg 1: Urban River – 6.4 miles
From Ferril Park in City Park, enjoy Vibrant Colfax and the Capitol, and run right through Denver’s Firestation #1. Then it’s down to the Bike Path, Confluence, the Platte, and end with a stadium run-through at the home of the Broncos.
Leg 2: No Groans at Sloan’s – 3.7 miles
We added Sloan’s Lake this year, and after an uphill run out of the stadium, it’s a fast, beautiful, flat run – mostly on the water! Great views of the mountains, downtown, and the new marina.
Leg 3: Eclectic Mile High – 6.0 miles TREVON'S LEG!
Outdoor sculptures at RMCAD’s college campus to the Scottish “Glens” – quirky streets and delightful willow canopies. Then it’s back to Colfax through Lakewood.
Leg 4: Screaming Downhill – 4.0 miles
Denver’s skyline is in full view as you speed down Colfax towards the stadium.
Leg 5: Downtown River Trek – 6.1 miles JESS' LEG!
Kick it off with another run through the Stadium. Check out the big screen – and see yourself running. Cruise the Platte and Confluence then head through Downtown and the neighborhoods along 17th before the final stretch into City Park.
